Back to the Basics

Nutrition does not need to be complicated. Here is a little Nutrition 101:  1. Remember learning the food guide pyramid in elementary school? Well, the basis of that pyramid is right on: you need to eat a balance from ALL of the food groups. ................

2. I’ve heard the phrase, “Stay close to the farm”, meaning: eat foods that you can easily trace back to something that was grown on a farm. An apple is a good choice. A twinkie is not….what is a twinkie anyways? Its been through so much processing that it's many, many steps away from the “farm”

3. Eat more like a toddler. I don't mean you need to smear your spaghetti all over your face. I mean eat like a toddler in the way that they are always snacking. Keep your metabolism going by eating 6 small healthy meals a day.

4. Don’t be too restrictive or you’ll find yourself rebelling and binging. Reward yourself occasionally with a favorite dessert or snack….just make sure you watch portion sizes.

5. Water, water, water! Drink lots of it. Not only does it curb hunger but it can help your body to metabolize fat.

If you want to lose weight, then you need to consume less calories than you burn. Its that simple. It takes 3500 calories to make a pound of fat, so if you decreased your caloric intake by 500 calories a day (that’s about 2 candy bars) then it would take you a week to lose one pound. Throw in some calorie burning exercise in there, and you’re on your way to faster weight loss.
